EDIT 30/1/2015: I’ve had some time to reflect upon the incident and the greater picture surrounding the recent events in Paris. While like so many others I detest what occurred that day, I can’t support the content Charlie Hebdo chose to publish. They often chose an incendiary tone, targeting religion and particularly Islam in their cartoons.
Some have said for that they brought this upon themselves, but to me that sounds too much like ‘she wore a short skirt at night’, as it makes the assumption that it is ok for armed gunmen, or predators, to enact violence on members of the public.
Tolerance shouldn’t allow bigotry, but violent radicalism can never be justified.
